plot bunnies

Category of the fics you'd beta: Most. However, I admit I don't have a liking for slash, and will not touch rape fics.  (Never have been comfortable with rape fics and hit overload with a friend who like every fandom they're in, they have to write rape fics...  ugh!)

Category of the fics you won't beta: First Person is not my cup of tea - usually not done very well to keep my interest.

Pairing of the fics you'd beta: Most. I'm a big Sparky! fan.  (Sheppard/Weir)

Pairing of the fics you won't beta: OC-Centric, because I'm scared of the dreaded Mary Sue. Again, not a huge slash fan, so McShep and any pairings in that category, I wouldn't be your first choice.

If not pairing oriented, character fics you'd beta: Any. I am an admitted Shep Whumpaholic.  *laugh*

If not pairing oriented, character fics you won't beta: - None.

Type of beta you'd do: All. My strengths are spelling and characterization.  Punctuation I'm decent at, but the super technical details of English are not my forte.  (It's been years since I took an English writing class.)

Length of the fics you'd beta: Any length - it doesn't matter.  The shorter ones I will be able to do in usually a few days.  Longer ones, I just ask for the fic to be broken up into sections to make it easier on my poor ADD riddled mind.  *g*

Category of the fics you'd beta: Most. However, I admit I probably wouldn't be the best choice if you're doing either fluff or PWP.

Category of the fics you won't beta: I'd prefer not to beta anything in first person.

Pairing of the fics you'd beta: Most. I'm more partial to McShep though.

Pairing of the fics you won't beta: I'd prefer not to beta any OC-centric fic or any fic that focuses a pairing with some random minor character we've only seen once. However there are always exceptions! I love character exploration fics, so if you have one of those, I'll be happy to beta it.

If not pairing oriented, character fics you'd beta: Any. I prefer Rodney centric fics, but I'm not fussy.

If not pairing oriented, character fics you won't beta: -

Type of beta you'd do: All. I'm probably best at spelling, grammar and sentence structure type betaing (i.e. copyediting). I'd think I'd be pretty good at plot betaing though. Characterisation betaing is probably my weakest point (although given that I've never betaed in this fandom before, who knows?) mostly because I tend to be more focused on plot. However, that said, if I have characterisation in mind when I start reading, undoubtedly I would pick up any flaws.

I'm Australian so please keep in mind that I may accidentally use Australian spelling when I'm editing. I'll try to keep my Word on US English though when I'm betaing.

Length of the fics you'd beta: I have a pretty quick turnaround for fics of less than 5000 words (a few days at most). For anything over 10, 000 words, I'd need at least a week or so.
25th-Sep-2008 03:18 pm - SGA Beta Update
Derek and Stiles
I have some announcements:

*Please welcome our two new co-mods erda_3 and ultimatemarysue. Hopefully everything will run more smoothly with their help.

*SGA Beta now has a web site, the alphabetical and genre lists for beta readers and the alphabetical and genre lists for beta artists (almost empty), have been moved there.

*Also on the website, the beta status has been added. Please remember to update your beta status regularly.

14th-Sep-2008 05:51 pm - Update your beta status!
Derek and Stiles
This is the post to update your beta status! Please post here if you wish to continue to beta or if you wish to stop.

I will make a list of those who are still active, let's call it "Beta status green".
I will remove those who don't wish to beta anymore from the beta list.
I will make a third list with those who don't reply, these will be "Beta status yellow", officially they are still registered betas and can be messaged with requests, but the authors will be aware that they have not updated their status and might be unavailable.

EDIT: Beta Status RED means you are currently unavailable. All Beta Staus changes are reversible. Also no need to link to your original post anymore. I have it covered.

The beta status list is anexed to the alphabetical list here.

This update post is made based on the request by ultimatemarysue made here. Sometimes I need a bit of a push to get going.

Hey all!

I am sorry for the long absence and delay in all things in this community.

I am in graduate school in Japan at the moment and I don't have a lot of time for anything but studying.

I would like to know if any of you would be available to become co-mod of this community, in order to tag the beta entries (because almost everybody forgets and the community cannot help people find what they're looking for without the proper tags).

I'd still have to update the genre list myself because it is my post and cannot be modified by any other mod (that I know of... my LJ knowledge is limited). If anyone has ideas how to make this process automatic or how to upload it to a site or something, let me know.

Any other ideas, please contact me, I don't want this community to die because I have no time to devote to it.
16th-May-2008 08:55 pm - Beta available

Category of the fics you'd beta: Almost anything... refer below for those I won't touch...

Category of the fics you won't beta: Threesome, BDSM, Non-con, femslash

Pairing of the fics you'd beta (if applicable): Pretty much everything...

Pairing of the fics you won't beta (if applicable): Please... no femslash (not my cup of tea... sorry)

If not pairing oriented, character fics you'd beta: Again, most everything...

If not pairing oriented, character fics you won't beta: Same as above... :P

Type of beta you'd do: The basics of grammar, spelling, sentence structuring etc. But more importantly flow and plot. If I feel something has been missed, or you need just another scene to make it a killer fic I will tell you... I'll also tell you the sort of messages I'm getting from your writing, so please tell me what you're intending with you're fic (just a sentence or two is fine :) so that I can tell you if somethings not quiet there :)

Length of the fics you'd beta: Anything... basically :)

Category of the fics you'd beta: Any. Hardly anything squicks me.
Category of the fics you won't beta: Can't think of any. Will gladly do crossovers if I know the other fandom.
Pairing of the fics you'd beta (if applicable): I prefer slash, but I'm easy to persuade, so any.
Pairing of the fics you won't beta (if applicable): I'm not fond of Carson, but I won't say I wouldn't read it.
If not pairing oriented, character fics you'd beta: Any.
If not pairing oriented, character fics you won't beta: Can't think of any.
Type of beta you'd do: Whatever you want.
Length of the fics you'd beta: I would prefer if longer stories would be given to me in parts so I don't get bogged down.

I read almost exclusively McShep, so I'm particularly aware of cliched and worn out McShep stuff. I feel there's room for all kinds of writers and everyone should write the kind of story they like and I' be happy to help you make your story just a tad better, or run over it to make sure there's nothing seriously wrong with it. I want to give you whatever type of beta you want for yourself, so feel free to spell out your needs to me.

Category of the fics you won't beta: Threesome, BDSM, Non-con

If not pairing oriented, character fics you'd beta: Any
Type of beta you'd do: Spelling and grammar - but if someone is horrifically OOC or otherwise unbelievable chances are I will not be able to stop myself from telling you
Length of the fics you'd beta: Any

I realize it's been about sixty years since anyone has posted here, so maybe all of you lovely writers are paired off, and I'm new to beta-ing; but I can attest to having five years of copy-editing experience at various school publications. Also I'm hilarious. So I hope to hear from you (and the characters I so deeply love)!

Category of the fics you'd beta: Action/ Humor/ Drama/ Team/ Fluff/ Slash/ Gen/ Het/ Threesome/PWP/ Smut/BDSM
Category of the fics you won't beta: Crossover// Mpreg/ Deathfic// Non-con
Pairing of the fics you'd beta (if applicable): I'm pretty much open to anything but McShep and McBeck are where i'm more comfortable but what the hell.  I have a pretty good grasp of all the characters and their interactions so ask me, I might!  :)
Pairing of the fics you won't beta (if applicable): Kavanagh/anybody, Hermiod/anybody
If not pairing oriented, character fics you'd beta: Rodney is my favorite charater so if it's Rodney-centric, bring it on.  But seriously, like I said above, I know all the characters reasonably well.
If not pairing oriented, character fics you won't beta: Kavanagh
Type of beta you'd do: Pretty much everything...spelling/grammar, plot, characterizations, realstic (to the SGA 'verse) situation
Length of the fics you'd beta: Any

I used to write in SGA but I haven't in a long time but I still love the fandom and the fanfic so I wanted to help out any/all wonderful SGA writers out there.  I've beta'd lots of times before, most recently for puddleofgoo  's SGA Big Bang story.  Also?  I do tend to be critical of characterizations.  That's my pet peeve, people writing the characters horribly so beware.  Also?  I have my BA in English and trained to be a copy editory/proofreader so I get pretty detailed when beta'ing.
