Hola> I'm looking for another pair of eyes to go over a piece that I've written for Round 5 of the
Sci Fi Big Bang. It's a Stargate Universe/SGA Atlantis piece that clocks in at just over 10k for the mini big bang portion of the challenge. My posting date is the 26th of August. The beta reader I had on wraithithbait yahoo mailing list, has been, well, incommunicado.

Here's the info
Title: Postcards from the Edge
Author: karrenia
Words: 10,072
Type of beta: grammar, verb tense agreement, spelling, and basic story flow.

I can be reached through LJ PM, or my email, thanks and take care, karrenia
28th-Oct-2012 09:38 pm - Looking for slash fic beta
Hi y'all,

I'm looking for a beta that would read through the three sga slash fics,
That I wrote last week.

They are mcsheppard, and I adore bottomMckay
Issues that I deal with are angst, emotional abuse, sexual abuse of a minor,
Torture (kolya!) all very non graphic mainly,

So if you've got a strong constitution
And your English is better than mine( not that hard, I've only been using it for
15 years) than please help me publish these fics.
There must be people out there who love Rodney as much as I do

Zorya

Sample:

"I'm not gonna roll his fat ass..."
Rodney fled the mess hall, his eyes locked firmly onto the floor, barely registering that he bumped into somebody entering through the doors as he left.

Major Sheppard, current victim of the scientist's sharp ellbows, opened his mouth to rib MacKay about his blindness but the man had already disappeared without even acknowledging him.

He shrugged it off, just another case of MacKay's brain being too preoccupied to notice the rest of the world. He looked around for a seat, noticing a table near the door where somebody had obviously forgotten to clean up after himself, looking at a few napkins that seemed to have equations scrawled onto them hastily John sighed and picked the tray up, glancing over the numbers he picked a few simple side calculations to throw away and put two absolutely stunning pieces of math into his pockets.
Remembering the last time Rodney had turned all of Atlantis upside down because he had lost a piece of paper on which he had scribbled a translation of Ancient math that could simply not be redone.

I'm writing SGA AU for au_bigbang and I could really use some help. What I need is more Alpha-reader kind of help, some brainstorming, a little advice. I've written myself into a corner and since I haven't written anything for the SGA fandom before, I have no one to whine about this to.

It's rather angsty story (h/c? without much comfort though), more gen than shippy, but with some friendship and John-centric.

Can anyone help?

Hey guys! I'm new here and searching for a beta mostly for spelling and grammer mistakes. I'd really appreaciate it!

The Love of Three
Summary:In response to my own challenge/request at sga-santa and a sga-kinkmeme on livejournal. Sheppard/McKay/Weir threesome. Aliens make all three of them do it. Elizabeth & Rodney both end up with pregnant with John's kids, who is extreamly protective of them.
Warning/Disclaimer:mpreg obviously, some swearing, mostly from John and possible violence later on. I own nothing. Everything belongs entirely to MGM/Showtime. No money will be made from this.
A/N:This takes place around the end of season one and the trio have been together for a few months, but danced around each other since the begining. Atlantis may never make contact with Earth so I guess this could be considered an Alternate Universe.

30th-Mar-2010 11:25 pm - Beta
Category of the fics you'd beta: Humor/ Drama/ Team/ Slash/ Gen/ Het/ Threesome/ Mpreg/ Crossover-depending on the fandom - if I don't know the fanfom I'll still beta I'll just have to be the basics.

Category of the fics you won't beta: Fluff/ Deathfic/ BDSM/ Non-con/

Pairing of the fics you'd beta (if applicable):
Carson, Rodney John, Lorne, or any combination therin is fine. I will beta other pairings, you just gotta tell me ahead of time.
Pairing of the fics you won't beta (if applicable): Not really fond of the evil characters

If not pairing oriented, character fics you'd beta:
most anything, give me and idea about what it is that I'm reading.
If not pairing oriented, character fics you won't beta:
Not really fond of fics that don't have the main characters at all.

Type of beta you'd do:
I'm good with grammar, and flow. Can't spell worth shit, but I can tell when the spell checker got something wrong. Though you might want to tell me if you want it in Canadian or American spelling, and yes there is a difference. I can do some in-character stuff but I'm pretty fast and loose with my characters, so you'd have to tell me how in-character you'd want them. Also how 'mean' I can hit every thing, but that's not always what you're looking for. Tell me if you do or do not want suggestions about actual content, not just flow and holes but ideas and actual plot help.

Length of the fics you'd beta:
Not Novel length. Anything else is good, but your time-line has to fit. I have exams starting so for now the shorter the better, towards the summer I will have more time for longer works.

WIP's - I have a slight peeve with writer who start with little or no intention to finish, therefore I will be a nagging Beta. If I feel that you have given up.
Deadlines - Are your own problem, Tell me and I will do my best. but like every thing in life the time you put into something is what you get back.

Personally - I'm not much of a detail person, I read with my imagination if that make sense and I can follow dialogue which hasn't made sense to other people, so If you need help in these areas i would suggest finding another beta. But I'm always willing to try.

Category of the fics you'd beta: Pretty much anything (including PWP/ threesome / BDSM / non-con) except...
Category of the fics you won't beta: No mpreg or kidfic. I'd rather not do het except in the OT4 setting, death-fic, and crossovers where I don't know the other universe.
Pairing of the fics you'd beta (if applicable): Most anything, but I prefer slash and Rodney/ pairings
Pairing of the fics you won't beta (if applicable): Main pairings with a very minor character or OC. I'd rather not do Elizabeth/ pairings.
If not pairing oriented, character fics you'd beta: Any.
If not pairing oriented, character fics you won't beta: None.
Type of beta you'd do: Pacing/flow, style, language, dialogue, canon. Grammar and punctuation as long as you don't want me to be too prescriptive. I can do a plot-beta, but I wouldn't say it's my strength. Just let me know what you need.
Length of the fics you'd beta: Any, but the longer it is, the longer it'll take me to beta. I can do a pretty quick turnaround for a basic grammar/punctuation check.

Not saying it
Category of the fics you'd beta: Action, angst, humor, drama, crossover, fluff, slash, gen, het, mpreg, and deathfic.

Category of the fics you won't beta: Threesomes, non-con, dub-con, domestic abuse, and anything involving bestiality or pedophilia.

Pairing of the fics you'd beta (if applicable):
McKay/Sheppard, McKay/Keller, McKay/Brown, Sheppard/Teyla, Radek/Teyla, Sheppard/OMC, McKay/OMC

Pairing of the fics you won't beta (if applicable): Elizabeth/Anyone

If not pairing oriented, character fics you'd beta:
Anyone human

If not pairing oriented, character fics you won't beta:
Wraith

Type of beta you'd do: I love working with WIPs and helping writers out of tight spots, filling in plot gaps, and characterization. Grammar/punctuation is really not my thing but if I notice a letter or a period missing here or there I'll make a note.

Length of the fics you'd beta: I'm fine with any length but it would be nice to have a timetable (when you need it back, etc). I also ask that the author let me know beforehand how 'mean' they want me to be while looking over their story. I know from experience that some authors just want a simple look-over and boost in the right direction while others want their beta to dig down deep and dirty.

General-Writing-FanficBeta, FanficBeta
Category of the fics you'd beta: Almost anything; I most prefer humor, team, drama, gen, and/or preslash/first-realization, but will beta most anything (including death, slavery, and non-con), subject to the restrictions in the next prompt.
Category of the fics you won't beta: PWP. Character is raped and thereby discovers a new kink/learns to like it. Non-consensual slavery as kink. Sexual trauma resolved by magical healing ... ahem, member. Highly experimental or dense style/structure -- innovation is fine, but nothing that leaves me going "... whuh?" or feeling I've just watched a David Lynch film. Songfics.
Fics with extensive explicit scenes, especially het (but brief explicit scenes are okay). I'm fine with higher ratings for dark themes or in-passing sex, but if you're aiming for a higher rating only because of explicit sex, I'm not going to be a good choice: Sex scenes do little for me and I tend to skim them, which is not useful in a beta.
Pairing of the fics you'd beta (if applicable): I prefer Rodney as one of the pairing/grouping but will try most anything. I'm put off by Elizabeth/anyone, Kavanagh/anyone, and Cameron Mitchell/anyone, though -- although they're fine if they're not the focus.
Pairing of the fics you won't beta (if applicable): See previous prompt.
If not pairing oriented, character fics you'd beta: Basically anybody, but I do have trouble warming to Elizabeth and Kavanagh, so I might not be your first choice for fics about them.
If not pairing oriented, character fics you won't beta: None.
Type of beta you'd do: Grammar, spelling, punctuation. Phrasing/language flow. Continuity and canon. Character voice, to an extent. Plot/structure (basic level). Reality checks on various elements, including entry-level medical/trauma content. I'm happy to do multiple passes.
Length of the fics you'd beta: No restrictions, but I need to know upfront what turnaround is needed, and figure I'll need at least one day per 5k words (negotiable).

Status 3 September 2009: Yellow.

worms head
Category of the fics you'd beta: Just about anything
Category of the fics you won't beta: Deathfic
Pairing of the fics you'd beta (if applicable): Prefer McShep, but anything
Pairing of the fics you won't beta (if applicable): None
Type of beta you'd do: grammar/ spelling/ plot, best at copy editing, but I can try characterization etc as well.
Length of the fics you'd beta: Any, though long ones will probably take a while...

sphinx

Category of the fics you'd beta: Any
Category of the fics you won't beta: I will not look at anything containing inappropriate sexual activity involving underage characters.
Pairing of the fics you'd beta (if applicable):  Any
Pairing of the fics you won't beta (if applicable): N/A
If not pairing oriented, character fics you'd beta: Any
If not pairing oriented, character fics you won't beta: N/A
Type of beta you'd do:   Grammar, spelling, plot, characterization...whatever is needed.
Length of the fics you'd beta: Any length, given sufficient time.  I'm not good with 24 hour turnarounds, unless it's really short, like 1000 words or less.
